Sustainability at Weltklasse Zürich

For almost a century, Weltklasse Zürich has shaped the history of athletics. Every year, the sold-out Letzigrund Stadium becomes the stage for a unique event, where the world’s best athletes compete and a legendary atmosphere unfolds. Weltklasse Zürich is committed not only to top performance but also invests consistently in the sustainable future of athletics.

In addition to the annual meeting, year-round promotion of physical activity is a high priority. Through projects such as the UBS Kids Cup, the UBS Kids Cup Team, the Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run, Jugend trainiert mit Weltklasse Zürich, and the Weltklasse Zürich Extrameile, we enable hundreds of thousands of children and young people each year to access athletics. Our goal is to create lasting enthusiasm for sport and promote an active lifestyle.

As an event organizer, we are aware that our events pose climate challenges. Since 2009, we have been working to reduce our CO₂ footprint by, for example, using as many rental materials and as few disposable products as possible, preferring local suppliers and partners, and offering less meat in catering. In addition, we have fully offset our CO₂ footprint since 2009.

With the fourth sustainability report, we document our progress in 2025 and provide a brief outlook on our efforts for 2026.

Our commitment can be summarized in three sentences:

  • Consistent promotion of athletics

  • Assuming social responsibility

  • Continuous reduction of our ecological footprint

The Three Pillars of Sustainability

Our sustainability approach is based on three pillars: ecological, social, and economic sustainability. We are aware that a major event like Weltklasse Zürich can never be completely climate-neutral. Yet it provides a platform to promote social engagement, inspire young people in sports, and convey sustainable values.

Here you can find our current and past sustainability reports, which transparently show how we take and develop ecological, social, and economic responsibility.
