A World Race with Obstacles
Medica supports women's health
In Switzerland, around 2.2 million people are affected by a chronic disease. The most common are cancer, cardiovascular or chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes. Endometriosis is also a chronic disease with a recurrent course, which is not yet sufficiently known and researched, but occurs most frequently in women of reproductive age. It affects 10% of women, and 30 to 50% of women with fertility treatment suffer from it.
The path to diagnosis takes an average of seven to twelve years. The health costs are immense, as is the psychological burden. Top athletes like Melanie Maurer, Sophie Wachter, Marta Peiró Giménez, Elinor Barker and Danielle Collins are also affected. And it is a «world race with obstacles» that affects private and social life, but also professional life, so that goals and dreams sometimes cannot be achieved. In order to raise awareness of endometriosis and its consequences, the project «Love Letters To My Uterus» was created in 2020, supportet by Weltklasse Zürich partner Medica. 28 women with endometriosis stood in front of the camera and told their stories in impressive pictures.
