Audrey Werro Returns to Weltklasse Zürich

One year after her historic triumph, Audrey Werro returns to Weltklasse Zürich. It was here, in front of her home crowd in 2025, that the Fribourg native wrote a new chapter in Swiss athletics history. This year, she once again takes on the world's best over 800 metres. Last season, Werro claimed victory in the Wanda Diamond League Final in a Swiss record time, prevailing in a race of the highest quality and atmosphere against, among others, Georgia Hunter Bell. Today, it is the Swiss star herself who has become the benchmark for the international competition.

What was once Switzerland's greatest middle-distance prospect has become the biggest name in the world over 800 metres. The 22-year-old has remained unbeaten throughout the outdoor season, producing a remarkable series of world-class performances and outstanding times. At the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Paris, Werro clocked 1:53.80, the third-fastest performance in history.

No woman had run faster over 800 metres for more than four decades. In the process, she improved her own Swiss record by almost two seconds. With her distinctive running style, relentless pace and exceptional stride length, the Fribourg athlete often dictates races from the front, regularly delivering spectacular performances. In front of a sold-out crowd of 25,000 at Stadion Letzigrund, she now has another opportunity to add a further highlight to an extraordinary season.

The race gains an additional layer of intrigue with the return of Georgia Hunter Bell to Zurich. The Briton was involved in a thrilling finish with Werro at Letzigrund in 2025, only being denied victory in the closing metres by five hundredths of a second. Following another strong season and with a proven ability to rise to the occasion on the biggest stages, the world silver medallist and commonwealth champion will once again rank among Werro's toughest challengers.

Attention will also be on Femke Broeders-Bol. The Dutch athlete established herself as one of athletics' biggest stars over the 400-metre hurdles, securing her place in the history of the discipline through world titles, European records and numerous major victories. She has also produced several memorable performances at Stadion Letzigrund.

As recently as last year, she improved her own meeting record at Weltklasse Zürich to 52.18 seconds and celebrated her 30th consecutive Diamond League victory over the hurdles. This season, however, she has embraced a new challenge over 800 metres. Her exceptional athleticism, speed and experience from the hurdles make her a formidable competitor over two laps of the track as well.

Lilian Odira, the reigning world champion, further strengthens a world-class field in Zurich. The Kenyan produced one of the biggest surprises of recent years when she captured the world title and underlined her quality again this season with victory at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Eugene. Few athletes embody the unpredictability of the 800 metres quite like Odira. When the world champion finds her rhythm, she ranks among the very best in the world and is always capable of taking control of a race with an explosive finishing lap.

The stage is therefore set for another unforgettable evening of 800-metre race at Letzigrund. Audrey Werro will take on the athletes who, together with her, currently define the international 800-metre scene. Over two laps of the track, and in front of 25,000 fans, the next great chapter in one of athletics' most prestigious disciplines will be written in Zurich.

With today's announcement, the leading names in the field have been confirmed. Further athletes will be announced in the coming weeks.
