Hurdles World Record at Letzigrund!

Second hurdles world record and a magical evening at Letzigrund!
Less than 40 minutes after Alison dos Santos’ sensational 400m hurdles world record, Masai Russell (USA) followed suit in the 100m hurdles. In 12.09 seconds, the Olympic champion set the Zurich «piste magique» by CONICA alight, finishing three hundredths of a second inside the four-year-old world record set by Tobi Amusan (NGR). Amusan finished second in the same race in 12.23, ahead of European champion Nadine Visser (NED/12.34). (Photo: KEYSTONE)
Perfect conditions, a packed stadium and highly motivated athletes: Weltklasse Zürich at Letzigrund Stadium is officially underway!
Fabienne Hoenke (LV Fricktal) provided the first Swiss celebrations in the women’s events in the pre-programme, winning the 200m. The European Championships fourth-place finisher and silver medallist with the Swiss 4x100m relay team got off to a flying start in front of the UBS Family Corner. Still within striking distance of the leader coming out of the bend, Hoenke really hit top gear on the home straight.
With a time of 22.53 seconds, the third-fastest time of her career, the U23 record holder claimed her second victory at Letzigrund after being crowned Swiss champion here at the end of July. First to congratulate her: sprinting role model Mujinga Kambundji (STB), who made her return to the «piste magique» after maternity leave.
Update to follow.
