Long jump stars challenge Ehammer at Weltklasse Zürich

The highly competitive fields for Weltklasse Zürich on 27 August 2026 continue to take shape. It is now confirmed which top athletes will challenge last year’s winner in the long jump, Simon Ehammer, at the Letzigrund Stadium. With Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou, world champion Mattia Furlani, as well as the medal-winning international top stars Gerson Baldé, Tajay Gayle, Wayne Pinnock and Bozhidar Sarâboyukov, the absolute world elite of long jumping will be on the start line – with the duel against Ehammer at the center of Swiss interest.

Simon Ehammer’s career is closely linked with Weltklasse Zürich, which has provided numerous defining moments. As a child, he took part in the UBS Kids Cup at the Letzigrund Stadium, gaining his first competition experience there. As an ambassador of the youth development project, the athlete from Appenzell has grown into one of Switzerland’s most successful track and field athletes of his generation.

Last year, Ehammer won the long jump competition at Weltklasse Zürich on Sechseläutenplatz, thrilling fans in the heart of the city. In 2026, the discipline returns to the grand stage of the sold-out Letzigrund Stadium, where the world’s best long jumpers will battle for every centimeter in front of the main stand.

The line-up of challengers is particularly strong. The Letzigrund will witness a clash between double Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou, world champion Mattia Furlani, indoor world champion Gerson Baldé and indoor European champion Bozhidar Sarâboyukov. World champion 2019 Tajay Gayle and Weltklasse Zürich winner 2024 Wayne Pinnock add further international pedigree to the field. In the middle of it all: Simon Ehammer. The Swiss athlete, last year’s winner and reigning Wanda Diamond League champion, currently leads the world seasonal rankings with an impressive 8.51 meters.

Hardly anything would excite the 25,000 spectators more than another standout performance from the Swiss star, capable of shaking the stadium to its core.

With today’s announcement, the biggest names in the field are confirmed, with additional athletes to be announced soon; a total of ten jumpers will compete.
