More than 1,300 participants run for a good cause in perfect weather

Under bright sunshine and pleasant temperatures, Zoo Zürich was transformed into a truly unique running venue on Wednesday evening: More than 1,300 participants took part in the 2026 Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run in support of a good cause. Whether ambitious or relaxed, young or old – enthusiasm for the unique charity run could be felt everywhere.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m., the starting signal was given for the first large group of runners. Participants enjoyed a varied course through both the upper and lower sections of the closed zoo, experiencing close encounters with animals and the unique atmosphere on Zürichberg hill.
The approximately 2.7-kilometre route led from the zoo entrance past the penguins and camels up to the upper zoo area and the new Panthera habitat. From there, runners continued past lions, tigers and snow leopards towards the elephant park and the Lewa Savanna before heading back to the finish line. In particular, the connection between the upper and lower sections of the zoo made the run an exciting experience, constantly offering new perspectives on the animal world of Zoo Zürich.
Thanks to the wonderful weather, a lively and cheerful atmosphere prevailed along the entire route. Many participants took the opportunity to complete several laps and discover the closed zoo from a truly special perspective.
There was also plenty on offer away from the course itself: Swiss exceptional athlete Nicola Spirig inspired visitors with highly sought-after autographs, while numerous activations along the route enhanced the overall experience – including a refreshment station hosted by Universitätsklinik Balgrist and a shoe-testing experience provided by On.
Christoph Joho, Co-Meeting Director of Weltklasse Zürich, was delighted with the event:
“The Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run 2026 was once again a truly unique experience. The atmosphere in the zoo was fantastic, the weather perfect, and the joy among participants could be felt everywhere. It is wonderful to see how sport and nature conservation come together here in such a special way.”
Zoo Director Severin Dressen also drew a positive conclusion: “The Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run inspires people year after year. Participants experience the zoo in an extraordinary way while at the same time supporting an important conservation project. A heartfelt thank you to all runners, volunteers and partners involved.”
The proceeds from the 2026 Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run will support a conservation project in Brazil, in which Zoo Zürich works together with Instituto Arara Azul to protect the endangered hyacinth macaws and the Pantanal habitat.
The Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run is jointly organized by Weltklasse Zürich and Zoo Zürich and took place today for the fifth time.
