Record 2026 Season with Nine Final Events Across German-Speaking Switzerland

With the 2026 season, the Weltklasse Zürich Extrameile further expands its presence and reaffirms its status as one of the leading school projects in the Swiss sports calendar. The successful physical activity initiative, which promotes endurance skills in a playful way, will reach more regions than ever before with a total of nine final events. This broad regional footprint underlines the project’s ambition to offer as many school classes as possible across German-speaking Switzerland a sustainable and unforgettable physical activity experience, while sending a strong signal for movement, enthusiasm, and long-term development.

Strong Partnerships as the Foundation for Growth

This continued development is made possible through close collaboration with strong and committed partners from the fields of sport, education, and society. Renowned institutions include the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, Knies Kinderzoo in Rapperswil, and Migros. This network is further strengthened by high-profile sports clubs such as BSC Young Boys, HC Davos, and EV Zug, as well as cantonal and local sports authorities. Together, these partners make a significant contribution to ensuring that the 2026 final events take place in a high-quality, experience-driven setting and provide participating school classes with varied and emotionally impactful experiences.

Iconic Venues with National Appeal

The season kicks off in Zurich at the historic Letzigrund Stadium, which will host two final events over the course of the year. In the same venue where international athletics stars usually take center stage, students will complete their Extrameile in a unique stadium atmosphere. Further final events will take the Weltklasse Zürich Extrameile to Bern’s Wankdorf Stadium as well as to Basel’s Park im Grünen, where the project will once again take place outdoors with a strong regional connection.

From Urban Centers to Unique Experience Locations

From major stadium venues in Zurich and Bern, to central educational and experience locations such as the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, and on to distinctive host locations in Davos, St. Gallen, Rapperswil, Basel, and Zug, the Weltklasse Zürich Extrameile 2026 spans the entirety of German-speaking Switzerland.

With new partners such as HC Davos, EV Zug, and Knies Kinderzoo, the geographical reach is being strategically expanded. Exceptional settings like the mountain backdrop in Davos, the Drei Weieren in St. Gallen, or the surroundings of Knies Kinderzoo add a strong experiential character to the final events and make each one unique. The program is further enhanced by the return to Stadium Wankdorf following last year’s interruption due to the WEURO, as well as the renewed staging of the successful event at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne.

Broad Support for Sustainable Physical Activity Promotion

The number and diversity of the final events would not be possible without the wide-ranging support of numerous partners. In addition to national and regional project partners, cantonal and local sports authorities as well as Swiss Athletics play a key role in the successful implementation of the Weltklasse Zürich Extrameile. The project is also supported by the Stiftung Freude herrscht and Darvida. Together, they create the foundation for sustainable physical activity promotion in schools and help inspire children and young people to engage in movement over the long term.
