The stars of today inspire the stars of tomorrow
Dreams came true at kids clinic «Jugend trainiert mit Weltklasse Zürich» at Letzigrund Stadium on Tuesday evening. Around 500 children enjoyed a very special training session with international athletics stars and Swiss role models – complete with joint exercises, autographs and selfies.
From 100 m and 100 m hurdles Olympic champions Julien Alfred and Masai Russell, respectively, high jump world champion Nicola Olyslagers and European sprint champion Amy Hunt to Swiss role models Mujinga Kambundji, Annik Kälin, Dominic Lobalu, Timothé Mumenthaler and William Reais, the stars of the sport took the time to give the youngest athletics fans a personal introduction to their events. With plenty of energy, enthusiasm and even more encouragement, they cheered the children on through the various exercises. The atmosphere at Letzigrund? World-class.
For the 500 lucky kids selected from around 3000 applications, the “most popular training session in Switzerland” was about much more than training. They had the chance to get up close to their idols, sprint, run, jump and throw alongside them – before heading off on an autograph and selfie hunt.
Perhaps for some of them, this was the moment when enthusiasm turned into passion. And perhaps some of tomorrow’s stars were already out on the track at Letzigrund. One thing was certain: there were plenty of beaming faces, unforgettable encounters and inspiration for the next steps on their journey.
