Verein für Gross- veranstaltungen: Nicola Spirig new member of the board
The Verein für Grossveranstaltungen (VfG) des Leichtathletik-Clubs Zürich (VfG / LCZ) has a new board member. The 42-year-old 2012 Olympic triathlon champion Nicola Spirig was elected to the nine-member board at this year's general assembly. She succeeds Andreas Schwaller, who is stepping down from the VfG Board after five years.
"We are delighted that Nicola Spirig, a committed and versatile personality, has joined our Board. With her background as an internationally experienced athlete, passionate sportswoman and entrepreneur, she complements our Board very well," says Felix Frei, who has chaired the VfG since 2017. "At the same time, we would like to thank Andreas Schwaller for his commitment and input over the past few years."
The Board of the Verein für Grossveranstaltungen now consists of President Felix Frei, Simon Ackermann, Markus Eisenhut, the Weltklasse Zürich Co-Meeting Directors Andreas Hediger and Christoph Joho, the President of Leichtathletik-Club Zürich, Martin Nyfeler, CFO Stephan Schmidli, Susy Schär and Nicola Spirig. The committee has been elected for the term of office until 2026.
Dr Rachel Berchtold was also newly elected. She is a new member of the Audit Committee (AC), which will be successively renewed until the 2026 General Assembly. Berchtold succeeds Jürg Schölly.

The Verein für Grossveranstaltungen des Leichtathletik-Clubs Zürich (VfG/LCZ) is the supporting association of Weltklasse Zürich. It was founded by Res Brügger, then both Meeting Director and LCZ chairman, in 1983. After 2006, the association was chaired by Gerhard Weber by then, the VfG became the driving force behind the launch of the UBS Kids Cup in 2011 and the 2014 European Athletics Championships in Zurich. Felix Frei became the association’s chairman in 2017. The VfG/LCZ still invests approximately 600 000 Swiss francs in athletics projects and thus helps continue Switzerland’s athletics success story.
