Weltklasse Zürich at Main Station: European champion takes on world champion in her own «living room»
On Wednesday evening from 17:30 (CET), Zurich Main Station will be transformed into a spectacular stage for the world’s best pole vaulters. Among them will be European champion Angelica Moser, who will be looking to reach the podium at her tenth home appearance. With free standing areas available, spectators can experience the stars of the sport up close and put their athletics knowledge and skills to the test at the various partner stands.
Angelica Moser has already stepped onto the podium ten times in her Wanda Diamond League career – five of those podium finishes have come this season alone, including a victory in Paris. At Weltklasse Zürich, however, a top-three finish has so far eluded her. Neither at Letzigrund Stadium, on Sechseläutenplatz nor at Zurich Main Station has she managed to make the podium.
Home favourite in top form
That could change at her tenth attempt. Buoyed by friends, fans and supporters, the Athletics Club Zürich home favourite will be aiming high in her own “living room”. The signs are promising: just two weeks after successfully defending her European title in Birmingham (GBR), Moser is in impressive form. She was the only athlete to clear 4.80 m at Alexander Stadium, earning the Golden Crown award for the best women’s jump event performance.
The competition, however, could hardly be stronger. Katie Moon (USA), the 2021 Olympic champion, three-time world champion and defending Weltklasse Zürich champion, and 5 m vaulter Sandi Morris (USA) will line up alongside the 28-year-old Swiss record-holder. Moser will face not only familiar rivals, but also multiple international medallists and Diamond League meeting winners.
Several other athletes will arrive with international medals to their names. Former world indoor champion Marie-Julie Bonnin (FRA/3rd) joined defending champion Moser on the European Championship podium in Birmingham. At the World Indoor Championships in Toruń (POL), Moser shared the podium with Tina Šutej (SLO/2nd) and the bronze medal with Imogen Ayris (NZL/3rd). Emily Grove (USA) and Hana Moll (USA), who recently claimed victory in Lausanne, have also tasted success in the global meeting series.

There is therefore no shortage of excitement in the battle for supremacy in Zurich. And the public can experience the action at Main Station up close: from the completely sold-out additional grandstand to the free standing area and the numerous partner stands. The concept is simple, even if the discipline itself is anything but: come along, look up and marvel as the world’s best pole vaulters use speed, explosiveness and acrobatics to propel themselves to dizzying heights.
