Weltklasse Zürich is kicking off 2025 at full speed: as host of the final of the Wanda Diamond League, the world's most prestigious athletics series, Zurich is once again setting international standards. The world's best athletes will meet an enthusiastic audience, millions of TV viewers and perfect conditions for top sporting performances at Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday, 28 August 2025.
Sechseläutenplatz will be transformed into an impressive open-air arena the day before (Wednesday, 27 August 2025), where the focus will be on throwing and jumping disciplines - open, urban and up close. With pole vault (men), high jump (women), long jump (men) and shot put (men and women) right in the heart of the city, visitors can experience the world's biggest athletics stars up close and free of charge - a concept that will attract international attention and once again position Zurich as an innovative location.
The upcoming final not only promises to be a sporting highlight but is also generating impressive figures in the run-up to the event: After the start of public sales, tickets for the Letzigrund stadium were completely sold out in less than two hours. Never has the demand been so great, never has the anticipation in Zurich and far beyond been so palpable. This record-breaking figure emphasises the appeal of Weltklasse Zürich.
Weltklasse Zürich is much more than just a venue for top sporting performances. Throughout the year, Weltklasse Zürich is committed to the further development of athletics, the promotion of young talent and the social anchoring of the sport. The planned construction of the Letzigrund athletics centre will create a new venue for training, development and meetings. This commitment is complemented by the High Performance Programme in collaboration with LC Zurich and other partners, which specifically supports talented athletes on their way to the top of the world. The UBS Kids Cup, a joint project of Weltklasse Zürich and Swiss Athletics, made possible by UBS, remains at the heart of the work with young talent - a nationwide support programme that inspires over 150,000 children and young people throughout Switzerland to take up athletics every year and creates initial access to sport and competition.
At the same time, Weltklasse Zürich looks far beyond the world of competitive sport. With projects such as the Weltklasse Zürich Extra Mile, the event aims to take athletics out of its traditional bubble and appeal to new target groups. Schoolchildren learn in a playful way how to take pleasure and pride in endurance performances. A very successful concept, in which 13 cantons are already involved. The Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run focusses on combining exercise, nature and family fun. This event in the unique setting of Zurich Zoo - which was fully booked again this year - is a perfect example of how sport and social values such as exercise, enjoyment and commitment to sustainable projects (all proceeds are donated to an animal welfare project) can be brought together.
The newly launched Mental Game series aims to make findings from top-class sport and science accessible to a wider public in an exciting way. The focus is not on improving physical performance, but on mental performance. A social issue that is more topical than ever. Weltklasse Zürich has set itself the goal of contributing to solving these challenges.
Through all these activities, Weltklasse Zürich is positioning itself as an innovative player that goes far beyond traditional event organisation. The continuous development of an active and committed community is not a secondary objective, but an integral part of the vision with which Weltklasse Zürich aims to create social added value.
