400 Meter Hurdles

Recap

DOS SANTOS AND BOL CONTINUE THER WINNING STREAKS

Alison dos Santos (BRA) won all of the ten 400m h races he competed in this year. So, he was determined to maintain his invincibility status in Zurich, and he did so in impressive fashion and distinctive style, clocking 45.98. Standing 2m tall, the athlete, called «Pio» by his friends, truly deserved the Diamond Trophy this year. Swiss European championship finalist Julien Bonvin came in seventh in 49.73, running a tenth of a second faster than in the national championships at the same arena in June.

Femke Bol (NED), too, dominated her events this year, winning three 400m and nine 400m hurdles races. The 22-year-old Olympic bronze, world championship silver medallist and 3-time European champion defended her 2021 title at Weltklasse Zürich. Pushed by Dalilah Muhammad (USA/4th), who went out fast, she won in 53.03.

EUROPE’S HIGH FLYER TO FACE ROLE MODEL

Femke Bol (22), has been dominating the 400m in Europe, in races both with and without hurdles on the track. In Zurich, she will challenge her role model Dalilah Muhammad (32) again. The triple European champion (400m, 400m h, 4x400m) from the Netherlands and the US-American 2016 Olympic champion, former world champion (2019) and former world record holder already clashed in Eugene: Bol won a silver medal, Muhammad took bronze. Muhammad is a two-time Diamond Trophy winner, but Bol won all her Diamond League races this year.

In the men’s 400m h, winning the race will involve beating world champion Alison Dos Santos (22, BRA).
