Kids Clinic Jugend trainiert mit Weltklasse Zürich inspires youth

On Tuesday evening, the spotlight at Jugend trainiert mit Weltklasse Zürich was on to the stars of tomorrow. At Letzigrund Stadium, wide-eyed children shared the track with today’s athletics greats – and loved every moment of it, from drills and relays to selfies and autographs.

Sprint world champion Mujinga Kambundji — soon to become a mother — European champion Dominic Lobalu, and world champion Femke Bol were just some of the global icons that turned up for what’s known as the “most popular training session in Switzerland”. Their presence alone was enough to set hearts racing. But it was South Africa’s 19-year-old rising sprint star, Bayanda Walaza, who stole the show. The U20 world champion came up with a little extra encouragement for every child, the kids repaid him with extra fire and energy for every repetition of every exercise.

For many kids, this evening could be the spark that gets them started in running, jumping, or throwing. For others, it was the once-in-a-lifetime chance to get close to their idols, chasing autographs and selfies. The world’s best athletes met every request with a smile, leaving eyes shining even brighter.

Chosen from a pool of over 3,000 hopefuls, 500 youngsters were granted a rare chance to step onto the track and share in the magic of “Switzerland’s most popular training session”.
